BODILY COVERING FOR SOMATIC RELEASEMENT
Object-oriented Transcendentalists believe that through ritual releasement practices of movement and making, the interior self can be released from the body and uploaded into an immaterial consciousness. Releasement rituals can be material or somatic in nature. This garment is designed for somatic rituals that involve the wearer to move in order to establish a firm sense of corporeal presence to encourage dialogue between the body and interior self. This bodysuit is a covering for such rituals, and is designed to both conceal and exhibit the body.
This collaborative project explores advanced techniques in knitwear by using the intricate structural capabilities of Shima Seiki technology. The bodysuit features over 30 unique knit structures designed to wrap ergonomically around the body, mapping energy flows contained within the wearer.
Cotton/cashmere blend yarn sponsored by UPW Hong Kong. Programmed using APEX software on a 10gg Shima Seiki electronic knitting machine.
